Ebonyi polls: PDP candidate, Odii accuses APC of desperation, sponsoring thugs to disrupt election

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ebonyi State of sponsoring thugs to disrupt the ongoing election and being desperate to take over governance.

Odii, who spoke to newsmen at his hometown in Isu community, Onicha LGA of the state, stated that he was informed of the massive violence and disruption of the governorship and House of Assembly elections by thugs in most local government areas of the state.

He noted that: “You know APC, they are very desperate, because if they are prepared for election, I don’t think they will go about to disrupt the process in Ohaozara, Afikpo North and South, virtually almost all the local governments.

Odii said that APC is not sure of winning election and that’s why they are allegedly disrupting the election, adding that “What they are doing is burning of ballot papers and results, that is what they do but we have talked to security agencies to beef off more securities,” he stated.

He, however, called on the new Resident Electoral commissioner, REC, Mrs. Onyeka Ugochi to immediately cancel the elections in the area which was marred by violence and irregularities.

“People came out very well in some areas, because of the threat from the APC government of using thugs, of course they are doing that and it’s actually scared people away,” he said.

In a swift reaction, the APC Chairman in Ebonyi State, Stanley Okoro-Emegha denied the involvement of the party in intimidation of voters.
