Ogun guber: Be fair, transmit results online – Segun Showunmi tells INEC

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Showunmi has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be fair and impartial in today’s governorship election.

Showunmi charged INEC officials to follow the guideline and upload results of the elections on its server from the polling unit.

The Ogun PDP governorship aspirant spoke with newsmen after casting his vote at Itoko Ward 6, beside Itoko Town Hall, Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.

While saying the accreditation of voters has been smooth, Showunmi stated that the people are looking up to INEC to avoid a repeat of what happened during the presidential election.

“The accreditation has been pretty smooth and our people have turned up as much as they can. What we will now be waiting for is to hope that things will be transmitted from here directly to INEC and to Abuja.

“The truth of the matter is that most of the elections have been done in their polling units. People have their expectations on how well it has been conducted. We have done our part, let those who are responsible for the count do their own part, and those who are responsible for the transmitting of the result do their own part.

“I think we the people can be proud of ourselves. We have demonstrated that truly democracy works here. I am not even sure anyone can call the election for now, it seems to be a close race,” he said.

He stated that the enthusiasm and the campaign are quite close, saying “for the first time in our State, we are having like a three-horse race, but I believe PDP will be victorious.”
