The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Ogun State Command has arrested 61 Cameroonian irregular migrants and 52 Nigerians for their involvement in a smuggling scheme.
This was revealed in a press statement released on Saturday by the service, adding that the migrants were working for QNet, Quest International, a company that sells health products through physical and online networking.
According to the statement, the migrants, 61 Cameroonians, involving eighteen (18) females and forty-three (43) males, were apprehended on September 1, 2023, at Laday Event Center Asese Area Ibafo, Ogun State, following covert surveillance and discrete intelligence.
The migrants were said to have been victims of QNet, which engages in smuggling of migrants, as they(QNet) extracted financial benefits from the victims and also procured their illegal entry into the country.
The other 52 Nigerians, comprising 31 males and 21 females, were suspected to be collaborating with the Cameroonian migrants in their employment with QNet (Quest International).
The statement stressed that QNet promised the victims juicy jobs in Nigeria oil companies, blue-chip banks, etc, in order to lure them into the country, which amounted to fraudulent misrepresentation of facts.
It also revealed that the migrants entered the country through illegal routes and did not possess valid travel documents.
The report added that these victims, having no means of livelihood, would become ready tools for heinous crimes in Nigeria's frail security environment.
It further disclosed that the arrested paid huge sums of money ranging from 500,000 CFA (625,000 Naira) and above to the company before they were registered as downlines.
According to the statement, this fraudulent activity was fast spreading widely across Southwest States.
After further investigation, the Service identified two main recruiters for QNet, who are on the run, as Tereze (Cameroonian) and Peter Eze (Nigerian).
The Comptroller of Immigration, Ogun State Command O.O Bosede therefore exclaimed that after conclusion of all interrogations, the repatriation process will take place accordingly.
